Hello, I'm Karin. Everyone knows that you have to be exceptionally careful before using just anyone for a bikini wax or Brazilian wax especially when dealing with sensitive areas.
That's why we've created this special page within the site to advise on what you should know about bikini wax & Brazilian wax.
A bikini wax only eliminates hair around the bikini line and is really normal to get this sort of wax done your first time. Whatever you do, do not get a Brazilian wax or Hollywood wax your first time!
Waxing hurts! There's no getting around that so you may want to consider some painkillers just before heading to the salon. Also, if you want to minimize your pain, go to someone with experience. Someone that doesn't know what they are doing will cause you even more pain.
Now to look good in your Brazilian bikini you will have to go with one of the following three varieties of waxes. The French wax eliminates all of the hair from the front besides a modest strip and all hair up until the buttocks. The Brazilian wax doesn't end at just eliminating hair from the front, it removes it from the butt also. In some cases, they might leave a small strip or triangle in the front. The Hollywood wax eliminates all hair front and back. Since the Brazilian wax can, in some circumstances, be a full frontal wax or leaving a strip, asking for a Hollywood wax can in some cases be the very same as asking for a Brazilian wax. Just make sure when you inquire for a Brazilian that you and the waxer are on the same page so you really don't regret it later on.
Shave the place three weeks prior to getting waxed or trim the hair in the area. Some aestheticians say to exfoliate the area beforehand and afterward to prevent ingrown hairs. If you experience redness or irritation, you can relax the area with ice or use an antibacterial to prevent infection.
How To Bikini Wax At Home
First, exfoliate and make sure the area is clean. Large amounts of bacteria live in the bikini area so be sure to first, exfoliate and clean the area.
Make sure the bikini area is bone dry before you begin. Sprinkling baby powder over the area is another good way to make sure it's dry. Bikini wax won't stick properly to wet skin nor will it pull out very short hairs. You will have to wait until they are around quarter of an inch long if you've had a bikini wax recently. On the other hand, hair shouldn't be too long though or it will need to be trimmed. As we're getting closer to the pain part, this is a good time to remind you to take a couple of painkillers before you start waxing. You could also try one of the numbing creams or sprays, which are now available.
There are many different waxing kits and a variety of waxes such as, Hard wax formulas, cold waxes, and sugar waxes. You can even make the wax yourself. Do some research to find one that's right for you. Some claim to be suitable for a Brazilian wax, but actually you should never attempt a Brazilian wax at home. Whichever micro bikini you choose make sure you pull hairs out by their roots to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. If this is your first bikini wax, bear it mind that this is the most it's going to hurt. Waxing weakens the hair follicles so hair re-growth is less prolific with each treatment. Eventually, you may find you don't need to bikini wax very often at all.
After waxing, calamine lotion will soothe the area. Don't wear tight-fitting clothes or underwear until any redness or pain has gone. Waxing lasts for about for four weeks. Be very careful when you do micro bikini waxing and have fun.
Bikini Wax & Brazilian Wax FAQ's
How long will the results last?
After a client’s first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates hair growth, therefore hair grows quicker in the summer than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued waxing results in sparse hair re-growth.
What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?
Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs. Avoid the sun, heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, tight clothing,no hot bath, hot shower or oral sex for 10 hours after a Brazilian. While your pores are open, they are vulnerable to irritation by the extreme temperatures and infection by bacteria.
How Much Does a Bikini Wax & a Brazilian Wax Cost?
One huge factor to consider is the area in which you are looking to get the procedure done. I have seen nail salons have a bikini waxing menu that starts at $15.00. I have also been to high-end spas in Hollywood and New York where bikini waxing prices are up to $120. So much depends on the location of the salon, what type of products used and the type of clientele they cater to.
With that being said, I would not necessarily look for the cheapest or the most expensive place. Estheticians price their services based on experience, products being used and overhead. Remember that waxing is a business and everyone needs to earn money.
Also, an Esthetician keeping his or her area clean and sanitary will use more supplies and product.
I've found that it really doesn't matter how much you pay if you have found an Esthetician that you're comfortable with, is knowledgeable and concerned about your health and safety. Remember that you might be in some very awkward positions. You want to find the right person for yourself, and when you do, you will know what a fair price is.
